Crust:
Layers of the Earth
On the outside of the earth is a really thin layer of solid rock which is called the Earth's crust. The Earth's crust extends under the oceans crust which is the oceanic crust as well as the continents which is called the continental crust. The depth of the crust changes from less than 5 km over 50 km thick. The crust is made up of genetic types of rock , and the ocean crust is mostly made of basalt rock covered with layers of sediments. Under the water is about 5 feet thick and under the continents it is about 60 km thick. The temperature ranges from 200C and 400C. The earth crust takes up less than 1% of the volume of the earth. The Earth's continental crust is three times as thick as it's under oceans.
